TRAVEL TIPS

How to make a long and sometimes difficult trip easier and more fun

The right seat

Where parents and children are seated in an airplane can affect their enjoyment on board. A window seat is a good thing. Placing a pillow or blanket just under the window makes a comfortable place for the child to sleep. Ask your flight attendant about our comfort kits, available for only CAN $7.

Seat selection

To choose the best seat for your child, be sure to use our seat selection service at 1-877-TRANSAT or online.

Mommy, my ears hurt!

To prevent earaches, give your child candy (they won't say no!) or a bottle of water. If their ears hurt, try this trick: tell them to yawn – that always works. The benefits of pinching your nose, however, are less certain – so we do not recommend it.

For your comfort

Promote proper blood circulation and prevent numbness in the legs by walking your child in the aisle every so often during the flight. In fact, all passengers are encouraged to take a little exercise during the flight. Walking is a good way for your child to expend excess energy. If he or she is too young to walk, a little massage is also beneficial and welcome. Since the air in the cabin is dry, make sure to give your child enough water to drink throughout the flight – small amounts at regular intervals is best. You can also use a moisturizing cream, especially on parts of the body where your child experiences dryness or chafing.
